Toshiba Qosmio vs. Sony Vaio TZ vs. eee PC

Published on February 9, 2008 in General by Rami Taibah

My latest gadget-fetish acquisition was the eee pc, and I felt obliged to brag about it’s nimbleness! So I pitted it against a behemoth (19″ Toshiba Qosmio) and a little squirt (Sony Vaio TZ). Poor little E, he seems like a frightened little white mouse! :(

Very curios as to what these Sony fanboys have to say now that the EEEpc 900 is available...

Dont get me wrong, i think the TZ is an amazing computer.. but it also cost a lot more.. and as such even if you can afford it, you treat it more delicately. i think the point of the eee is that it is so small you that take it everywhere, and it is so cheap that you dont worry about it .... Now with the bigger screen and larger ssd's of the 900, i believe the two main flaws have been covered..

and the insinuations that the eeePC is a noob's toy? well i imagine the opposite is more true.. the only people i know with eee's are technically capable, and run all sorts of operating systems on it, including xp, different linux distros, and OS x

I imagine TZ owners are more likely the inexperienced computer user that just wants it to work and does not like experimenting with different os'es

  • @JVC, Nicky, and Sandisk: Well obviously I am not going to convince you otherwise, and vise versa. The eee pc has amassed huge following, so there IS another side to your story. Anyways let's agree to disagree shall we? And thank you for dropping by :)

We can not only consider the size.
To connect EEEPC to the Internet is necessary A connecting card.
To download files you need a memory card or an external hard drive.
To read and write CD or DVD requires a reader outside.
All these things at the end increase the EEEPC's volume making it little portable.
For two inches more you can have all these things in one system.
The TZ is really an ultra-portable notebook and not an object that lacks everything.
Are all good at creating a small notebook removing the essence of a PC.
The EEEPC has nothing and nothing occupies little space.
The TZ has everything and occupies almost the same space.
    Bye ;)

The ultra mobility is useless unless there is also the usefulness resulting from the availability of many applications.
Do you want watch movies, divx, photo, play games, music and surf to internet?
Buy a PSP that have all this characteristics.
A notebook you should offer more of these things.
PSP is the smallest and least expensive dell'eeepc.
The eeepc does not offer anything in this innovative and your enthusiasm is not justified.

  • I don't know why you are coming up with all these comparisons. This post is a comparison in size, and only that, and the eee pc clearly has that advantage. Nobody claimed that it's more powerful or better than anything let alone the TZ. The TZ, and most other laptops win when it comes to performance hands down! But that's not the eee pc's purpose...

The eee pc serves a purpose for a lot of people, and thats ultra mobility. And that's the only advantage over other laptops (aside from the fact that it's Linux preloaded ;) ). Most eee pc owners, including me, have other laptops/desktops for their main computing needs.

Can't own? Where do you think I got these laptops for the photoshoot?? ;)

if the people haven't the money to buy a TZ does not mean that the eeepc, which costs less, is better.
If people had the money to buy a TZ not even take into account the eeepc.
people despise what they can not have.

yes, I sell my eeepc two weeks ago.
    It's only a game machine.
The are many applications in eeepc but it isn't realy a notebook.
With eeepc you don't have much power and you can't watch movies because there isn't a reader.
Ok, you can download dvix on his hard drive but there are only 4 gb.
The same for music and other applications.
eeepc is not expensive like tz?
yes, but we can see why.
the applications and the quality are so different.
tz is a notebook for buisness and eeepc is only a fun machine for some kid ore some noob .

    REMEMBER:
Quality determines the price and the prestige of a brand.
Do you think that a Ferrari is qualitatively less than a compact car?
    I think no and you?
