Oh Noes! Ubuntu Got Pwned by an XP Virus!

Published on April 21, 2008 in Humor by Rami Taibah

While surfing the tubes, I stumbled onto this picture. Apparently some dude tried to scan his Ubuntu using the xponlinescanner utility. Lo and behold, some 3 XP viruses pwned his Ubuntu (what a shame). He better watch out and resolve the Spyware.IEMonstor.b virus, it’s critical! Ya right, LOLZ!

That is not real if anybody thought that. The "xponlinescanner" is a web page that will tell you that you have viruses and to download their app to remove them, which is actually a virus. The only way Ubuntu will be killed by that is using Wine, and then it probably won't affect it still.
  • Spyware can be such a hassle.

  • Debbie0, you can safely ignore it :)
  • It's not as easy as it seems Rami, I wish I could suggest that lot often, however I would suggest Debbie0 to consult with the experts.

Is this a genuine virus or a joke as I've just got the popup on my screen today.
