Well this is a Linux blog, and by no means am I a guru in computers let alone Mac OSX. However I believe that on Mac OSX all you need to do is hit Apple Key+CTRL+U to bring up utilities, and from there double click on terminal. This article talks about analyzing your computer from the terminal, and since OSX has a UNIX based terminal, I believe it applies. Just type "top" in the terminal

how do you find these readings on your computer? i feel like i have one of the issues above, and i have 2 questions. first of all, do files from other accounts on the computer influence your account speed? also, how do i bring up these readings on a mac os x?
note: i was told that it is highly unlikely that a mac can get a virus. is this true?
o great guru of computer knowledge, can you please tell me the answers to my questions so i can get on with my youtube-watching?
please and thank you.

Thanks for your post. I'm trying to broaden my knowledge in general, eventhough I work with a company that offers software to speed up one's computer.

I'd like to try Ubuntu but I was warned to be very careful about using Linux.

There is some scary stuff out there like The Truth about Linux. I really don't want all my work to be owned by the Microsoft Corporation because of infringing software.

How long can I use Ubuntu for? If I use it for 30 days and delete it afterwards will I still get sued?

I keep an eye for system responsiveness with a System Monitor Gnome panel applet. It's a very elegant GUI alternative to CLI and when you click on it, you get the System Monitor running (Windows Task Manager equivalent), ready to kill the unresponsive apps.

http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/6043/systemmonitorqo9.th.png

As you can see, the green box is almost filled up with dark green which tells how much of it is used by applications, the light green is cached. You can easily notice when will memory usage hit through the roof and prevent it, before you fall into the abyss of disk swapping hell... :D

P.S. It's really not necessary to use CLI in Ubuntu anymore, but I still use it a lot though, because it still faster :)
